Joe Savoldi - historyofwrestling.comIn one of the many double-crosses that were so prevalent during this infamous era of professional wrestling, “Jumping” Joe Savoldi defeats reigning the National Wrestling Association World champion Jim Londos in Chicago, Illinois. Referee Bob Managoff served a pivotal role in the bout, allowing Savoldi to take the title in a match that he was not supposed to win. Following the double-cross, Londos claims that their encounter was a non-title match. The NWA agrees, citing the fact that Illinois was not one of the states governed by the Association, and continues to maintain its recognition of Londos as World champion.
