The country’s second-largest wrestling promotion at the time, Jim Crockett Promotions, purchases the third-largest group, Bill Watts’ Universal Wrestling Federation, for a reported $4 million. Although the purchase included an impressive number of t.v. stations that were added to J.C.P.’s syndication package, as well as an influx of talented UWF performers, for numerous reasons the purchase is ultimately recognized as one of the major contributors to the downfall of the Crockett family promotion.
