The National Wrestling Alliance, which for decades was the largest and most powerful governing body in the professional wrestling industry, is officially formed after founder Paul “Pinkie” George assembles a collection of Midwestern promoters in Waterloo, Iowa. The concept of the NWA, to unite various regional promoters under a single banner who then agreed to trade talent amongst each other and, more importantly, recognize just one World Heavyweight champion, was quite revolutionary at the time and proved to be a highly successful business model for decades to come.
