Fritz Von Erich defeated Dick the Bruiser for the NWA United States title in Detroit Michigan on December 1, 1961. Fritz would go on to hold the title on two more occasions and well as various other NWA title belts and well as the AWA Heavyweight belt and various other regional titles.
