Dan Severn Becomes the NWA Champion

Dan “The Beast” Severn defeats Chris Candido in Erlanger, KY. to become the NWA World Heavyweight champion.  During a time when the promotion was considered nothing more than a glorified independent group, Severn, also an early U.F.C. champion, was the most credible NWA champion since the 1980s and would go on to hold the NWA title for over four years, the third longest uninterrupted reign in National Wrestling Alliance history.
