Vince Russo Removed From Position As WCW Creative Director

by Mark Long

Vince Russo - historyofwrestling.comLess than three months after leaving Vince McMahon’s WWF and joining WCW, Vince Russo is removed from his position as lead WCW writer and overall creative director. While not fired from the company, the controversial Russo is replaced by a booking committee that includes Ed Ferrara, Terry Taylor, J.J. Dillon and Kevin Sullivan. The inclusion of Sullivan on the new booking committee results in wrestlers Chris Benoit, Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko and Eddy Guerrero all asking for (and receiving) their release from WCW and entering the World Wrestling Federation as The Radicalz. An indirect result of Russo’s demotion, both Benoit and Guerrero would eventually go on to become World Heavyweight champions in WWE.
