The Detroit Wrestling War Begins Between the Bruiser and the Sheik

by Mark Long

Indianapolis promoter William Afflis (Dick the Bruiser) and partner Wilber Snyder promote the first World Wrestling Association event in Detroit, Michigan, beginning a two-year promotional war with Michigan wrestling czar (and NWA member) Ed “The Sheik” Farhat. Although he lost the WWA title to Dick the Bruiser nine days earlier in Indianapolis, Baron Von Raschke is recognized as WWA champion and again loses the title on the promotion’s first Michigan show to the actual champion, Dick the Bruiser.
