Andre the Giant - historyofwrestling.comWWF debuted Saturday Night Main Event, the first broadcast of professional wrestling on network television since the 1950s. The program originally aired on NBC as an occasional replacement for Saturday Night Live on its weekend broadcast schedule.

The show was a huge rating success for NBC. The March 14, 1987 show, which focused on Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant in their lead up to Wrestlemania III, drew an 11.6 rating, the highest rated show ever for that time slot.
