Ric Flair is fired by WCW Vice President Jim Herd, a move that would have far-reaching implications.  Soon after being let go, Flair would sign with the World Wrestling Federation, taking the instantly recognizable NWA/WCW “big gold” title belt with him.  Ultimately, Herd would lose his position as World Championship Wrestling V.P. due primarily to his decision to fire Flair, WCW’s top performer at the time.
