This Day In Wrestling History

September 23, 1978 - Following a year and a half as champions, The High Flyers (Greg Gagne & Jim Brunzell) are stripped of the AWA World Tag Team championship when Brunzell is injured and unable to defend the title. The #1 contenders, Pat Patterson & Ray Stevens, are then awarded the championship belts by AWA President Stanley Blackburn. This marked the fourth (and final) time that Patterson & Stevens held the AWA Tag Team title and their reign lasted for seven months.
